A popular series on Netflix which was recently renewed for another ten episodes was The Night Agent but does it live up to the hype? In this Instant Reaction episode in the MovieBuffs Podcast, host Tyler Valencia gives a spoiler-free review of the series and shares why he’s shocked that this series has already been renewed for a second season. Espionage/spy tv series has become a popular genre over the years and Netflix alone has released a variety of espionage-type series in just the last few years. In Tyler’s opinion, both Bodyguard and Treason are stronger series that warrants a watch over The Night Agent.

One of the glaring issues for The Night Agent is its poor level of acting. As the series builds, the level of acting sadly falls off a cliff and you find the actors playing out cheesy one-liners you see in typical Americanized shows. The main actor Gabriel Basso sticks to his character’s morals throughout the series which we have to give him credit for, but that leads to awkward scenarios in the later third of the series. Another issue that the casual watcher might pick up on is how quickly the series goes from being filmed in Washington D.C. to moving to Vancouver. The series opens with an action sequence that is clearly in one of the metro stations D.C. is known for but very quickly the series moves to a city skyline that isn’t D.C. Even the scenes that are supposed to be set at Georgetown University are not filmed at this iconic university and can easily be pointed out.
